    Hunt Forest Products is currently seeking a highly experienced Plant Superintendent. Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a Plywood manufacturing facility, this role requires strong leadership, production knowledge, and a commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency.

     

    The most challenging aspect of the position is to ensure established production levels are achieved within safety, budget and quality goals.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Safety

    • Assist the plant manager in the future planning of the operation by participating in development of long-term recapitalization plans.

    • Accountable for plywood performance and evaluating and recommending/implementing changes to manning, machinery and maintenance processes that improve reliability, productivity, quality and safety.

    • Ensure the department operates in a safe manner in accordance to work safe rules, regulations, and policies.

    • Work with all staff and employees to recognize and eliminate safety hazards.

    • Ensure staff and employees are trained in safe work practices and are compliant with regulations and policies.

    • Ensure that all aspects of the mills' safety program are delivered to employees in a timely and effective manner.

    People Leadership

    • Support employee development through coaching, feedback and performance management.

    • Oversee the day-to-day activities of direct reports and ensure they have the tools, resources, and training required to do their job to the highest standards.

    • Work with superintendents and supervisors to ensure consistent application of company policies.

    • Work with superintendents and other management to ensure employee issues and concerns are heard and dealt with in a timely manner.

    Operational

    • Production Oversight: Ensure the plant meets production goals while maintaining product quality

    • Personnel Management: Supervise and coordinate plant supervisors, operators, and maintenance personnel; hire, train, and evaluate staff.

    • Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.

    • Efficiency & Cost Control: Identify opportunities for process improvement, reduce waste, and manage resources to control costs.

    • Maintenance Coordination: Work with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability.

    • Reporting: Track production metrics and prepare reports for senior management.

    • Continuous Improvement: Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Financial

    • Accountable to assist in the developing and delivering departmental budgets.

    • Approve all purchase requisitions within the department

    • Manage the departments to budget and provide variance analysis

    • Participate in capital planning and implementation process

    • Identifies areas of potential improvement, instituting and/or recommending changes.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Minimum 15 years' plywood production experience.

    • Minimum of 10 years in a supervisory capacity.

    • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing change

    • Demonstrated experience planning, goal setting and project management

    • University Degree or Technical Diploma in a relevant field preferred

    • Knowledge of plywood manufacturing processes and equipment

    • Knowledge of maintenance processes

    • Proven leadership ability

    • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills

    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships

    Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    • Strong troubleshooting/critical thinking/observation skills

    • Communication Proficiency

    • Negotiation Skills

    • Project Management

    • Collaboration Skills
