Commercial Legal Counsel
Job Description:
Are you a strategic legal advisor ready to make a significant impact in North America? We're seeking a Legal Business Partner to provide first-line legal support across all business units and go-to-market initiatives in the region. In this dynamic role, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align legal advice with North America's strategic priorities, ensuring scalable and consistent legal outcomes. You'll also support international cross-border initiatives, working in tandem with our global legal team to manage legal risks in accordance with our policies and controls. As a key contributor, you'll mentor colleagues in our Legal Service Centre, offering oversight and acting as an escalation point. If you're passionate about delivering top-tier legal counsel and possess the organizational prowess to manage complex legal tasks, we invite you to apply and become an integral part of our dedicated team.
This is a hybrid opportunity based out of our Ponce City office, 3 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
What will you be doing?
We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to deliver high-quality, timely, and commercially focused legal support across all Sage business operations in North America. This role places strong emphasis on go-to-market initiatives and legal compliance, requiring you to partner closely with business and functional teams to enable strategic outcomes. You'll collaborate with international legal colleagues on cross-border initiatives, ensuring a consistent global approach to legal service delivery. Your responsibilities will include reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex technology contracts, embedding Sage’s legal compliance strategy, and enabling colleagues in our Legal Service Centre (LSC) by providing training, guidance, and acting as a second-line escalation point. You will also contribute to business enablement through the creation of educational resources and self-serve tools. If you’re committed to innovation, continuous improvement, and fostering a high-performance, cohesive legal culture, this is your opportunity to make a real impact in a global business.
What are we looking for?
We're seeking a qualified Attorney with at least two years’ post-admission experience to provide practical, outcome-driven legal advice in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You’ll bring strong commercial legal expertise—ideally within a technology context—and be confident in drafting and negotiating complex agreements. Knowledge of intellectual property and data privacy will be ideal as you support high-impact projects and influence data-driven decisions. With exceptional communication and analytical skills, you'll thrive in a cross-functional, cross-border setting, collaborating to drive results at scale. A growth mindset, adaptability, and a drive to innovate legal delivery are key. Experience mentoring others, and an interest in AI, ML, or fintech negotiations is a plus. If you're ready to embrace ambiguity, manage multiple priorities, and help shape the future of legal services within a collaborative, high-performing team, we want to hear from you.
