    Summary You will serve as the Motor Vehicle Operator with the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, Washington. Responsibilities Have a valid and current CDL Class A or Class B license. Operate one or more motor vehicles including trucks, van trucks, fuel trucks, stake trucks and trash removal trucks, which have an approximate gross weight of more than 26,000 and up to 32,000 pounds. Operate a dump truck, large multi-blade lawn mower and/or tractor. Operate passenger or passenger ambulance buses, regardless of gross vehicle weight. Drive over public roads at highway speeds to transport passengers, patients, supplies, materials, tools, or equipment. Transport patients, staff, and visitors to and from the medical center over public highways and within the grounds at the Medical Center. Tow equipment throughout rural or urban areas. Perform operator maintenance on all vehicles (monitor fluid levels, replace air filters and interior lights, check tire pressure and hose connections, and washes the vehicles). Operate a hydraulic wheelchair lift when the vehicle driven is equipped to transport patients using wheelchairs. Complete pre-trip vehicle inspections, which will include checking brakes, tires, fluids, lights, and lifts. Assist the Grounds Maintenance and Transportation personnel with their duties. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM PDT. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The incumbent assists patients into and out of the vehicle and unloads any cargo including boxes of x-rays weighing up to 50 pounds. The position requires occasional maneuvering and backing of vehicles in and out of tight spaces. When performing Grounds Maintenance and Transportation Operations support duties, the incumbent may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. There is possible prolonged standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crawling. Working Conditions: The incumbent drives in all types of weather, in heavy traffic, on the interstate highways, and on other public roads. The incumbent is exposed to the exhaust fumes, noise levels, possibly serious accidents, and other hazards normally associated with freeway driving. While performing Grounds Maintenance and Transportation Operations support duties, there is possible exposure to equipment noise, extreme hot and cold temperatures, inclement weather, and exhaust fumes. You MUST possess a valid and current CDL Class A or Class B license, a State license, have a safe driving record, can pass a road test, and demonstrate that I am medically qualified to operate a motor vehicle safely. Education There is no educational substitute for this position. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
