    Job Descriptions:

    GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

    Under supervision and working in an aerospace prototyping manufacturing environment, this position fabricates composite aircraft parts using various fiber and resin systems, both dry and Pre-Preg systems. Post fabrication trimming and sanding of composite aircraft parts. Mockup and installation of aircraft parts in support of aircraft assembly. Layout and drilling of holes in composite and metallic parts. Perform adhesive bond preparation and bonding operation. Works from and interprets engineering drawing, diagrams, and 3-D models that contain detailed information.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    + Receives detailed instructions and works under close manufacturing supervision.

    + Reads blueprints, diagrams, process sheets, and assembly and schematic drawings.

    + Cut carbon fiber, fiberglass or other composite material using hand tools.

    + Hand lamination of Pre-Preg and various dry fiber materials.

    + Cutting and shaping of foam core material using a combination of hand and power tools.

    + Applies vacuum bag on completed layup.

    + Performs assembly mock-up of aircraft parts.

    + Perform bonding operations (abrade, clean, prep adhesives, etc.).

    + Records information on appropriate production records, logs and other report forms.

    + Performs re-work as required. Repairs defective products rejected by inspection or test personnel.

    + Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

    + Champions good safety practices throughout the facility and acts as an example for others to follow in order to maintain a safe working environment.

    + Other duties may be assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    Required:

    + Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.

    + Ability to interact effectively and professionally with peers and supervisors.

    + Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.

    + Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing schedules, priorities, and processes.

    + Ability to adhere to workplace rules.

    + Knowledge of assigned work area manufacturing processes, tooling, techniques, and materials.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Required:

    + High School Diploma or equivalent; or relevant experience or training.

    + Ability to read, diagrams, charts, and procedure manuals.

    + Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with others both verbally and in writing.

    + Must be familiar with duties and requirement of each position assigned to the department.

    + Must be able to operate multiple different hand-tools and power tools.

    Preferred:

    + Relevant experience in a production / manufacturing environment.

    + General mechanical knowledge and aptitude.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Manufacturing environment / shared workbench or workstations

    + Ability to perform repetitive motion (rotating wrists, keyboarding, using small/large tools)

    + Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.

    + May be exposed to noise and hazardous chemicals and hazardous conditions.

    + Must have the ability to perform tasks wearing a respirator.

    + Frequently required to handle objects, tools, or controls and/or to climb or balance.

    + Occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

    + May work extended hours and/or weekends.

    + May generate, handle, manage, or work around hazardous materials and hazardous wastes.

    + May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Is not required.
