    Summary of Responsibilities:

    The Customer Quality Engineer will interface directly with the North America Front-End Product Development Teams and the Global R&D and Quality teams.  This person will also support product quality post-production issues.

     

    The Customer Quality Engineer will work closely with the Front-End Product Development team and end users of products to convert VOCs into technical, quantitative requirements to ensure end customer satisfaction, as well as aligning those requirements with the product’s brand promise and warranty goals.  Supporting activities include user visits, test plan input, warranty analysis, conducting quality continuous improvement (QCI) audits, collecting and maintaining customer data, and managing lab and field testing.  The scope of this work is focused on Front-End Product Development to ensure preventive, proactive product quality performance needs are met, but this role will also support first production and launch.

     

    In addition, this role involves supporting post-production issues related to Product Liability, Quality Assurance, and Design Quality issues, including root cause analysis, risk analysis, test protocol creation, recommendation of product disposition, developing action plans, and project management of these activities.  In scope is also managing the annual QCI audit process.

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    + Support development of all aspects of draft test plan development during Front End Planning (FEP) phase of new projects by collaborating with Global R&D and quality teams

    + Support updates to test plans during Project Development Process (PDP) phase of new projects by collaborating with global R&D and quality teams

    + Support the development and approval of test plans for changes in suppliers, manufacturing locations, or cost reductions

    + Work with the development team to develop, validate, and implement new test procedures

    + Work with FEP and PDP teams to resolve issues with procedures, results, and targets

    + Perform postmortems on tested tools to determine failure modes and solutions

    + Lead field test check-ups

    + Attend field test meetings and communicate field test finding to PDP team

    + Lead planning, determining requirements, and timing of field testing for new development projects

    + Support design & development of new test fixtures for quality and validate performance

    + Manages the updates of all Chervon North America test procedures

    + Support investigation into customer complaints and returns

    + Coordinates outsourcing of tasks (ex.; metrology, metallurgy)

    + Work with MFG, PDP, and R&D engineers on the implementation of quality improvements

    + Manage product teardowns and reporting

    + Process total warranty and matrix of failures data monthly

    + Analyzes data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests

    + Review and approval of test report conclusions

    + Develop and implement continuous improvement programs covering quality management systems

    + Review all FMEAs (design & process) documents for completeness and correctness

    + Determine acceptance testing of reworked product

    Competencies:

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills

    + Strong problem-solving/ Root Cause Analysis skills

    + Strong test development competency

    + Presentation of teardown findings

    + Knowledge of the tool industry

    + Knowledge of manufacturing with respect to one or more areas; assembly, mechanisms, metal and plastic forming, injection molding technologies, tooling, fixtures, and gauges

    + CAD skills preferred

    + Comprehensive understanding of GD&T and SPC (statistical process control)

    + Familiar with quality tools and procedures

    + Strong statistical capability and Design of Experiments knowledge

    + Use of fishbones/Ishikawa, pareto charts, 8-D, control plans, etc.

    + Advance knowledge of Reliability Life Data Analysis

    + Excellent computer literacy; Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Minitab or MATLAB preferred

    + Ability to objectively review and qualify data

    + Ability to work with little or no supervision

    + Multi-tasking capable

    + Team worker

    + Knowledge of metrology

    + CQE (certified quality engineer) preferred.

    + Salary Range: $58k to $72k

    + Required Education and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

    + The ideal candidate will have 5 years of tool or tool related experience. Tool industry knowledge and new product development experience preferred.

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

    Travel:

    This position requires approximately 15% travel, with the possibility of some international.
