    THE POSITION

    The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is excited to announce an opening for the position of Cook 2, a vital role within the hospitality sector.     DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    In this position, the employee oversees and evaluates the work of junior cooks and food service staff engaged in both specialized and routine tasks related to food production and cleaning. This role involves coordinating the efforts of lower-level cooks to ensure that a diverse array of menu items is prepared simultaneously and within a designated time frame. The employee is responsible for guiding cooking techniques and procedures, as well as developing and refining recipes to enhance both the quality and quantity of food produced. Additionally, the employee manages the procurement of cooking ingredients and supplies, as well as cleaning and housekeeping materials, while also maintaining and updating recipe files to ensure consistency and compliance with established standards.

     

    As a lead worker, the employee assigns and coordinates tasks, actively participating in and reviewing the specialized and routine production activities carried out by junior cooks and food service workers. They provide direction on cooking techniques and adjust recipes to meet higher quality standards while adhering to PA SERV Safe regulations. The employee also plays a crucial role in training and instructing subordinate staff in both food preparation and the proper use and care of kitchen utensils and equipment. Furthermore, they ensure that cleaning and housekeeping tasks are performed effectively by guiding junior staff in these areas. The employee is tasked with preparing orders for both cooking and cleaning supplies, ensuring that all kitchen and cleaning equipment is well-maintained, and reporting any maintenance needs to the manager. They also suggest new equipment purchases to enhance efficiency, safety, and the overall guest experience, while diligently maintaining recipe files and reporting attendance of cooks and food service workers to the Administrative Assistant and Center Manager. In terms of food preparation, the employee actively participates in the large-scale production and cooking of various meats, vegetables, casseroles, soups, and sauces, while continuously reviewing menus and monitoring food usage and consumption to optimize operations.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    + This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2026.

    + Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

    + Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.

    Desirable Preparation For Work:
