Description
We are looking for a motivated, data savvy investigations manager to initiate and support high scale customer return fraud & abuse investigations, as well as drive loss avoidance initiatives in alignment with organizational goals. The ideal candidate should be passionate about protecting Amazon's people, product, and data by developing a comprehensive understanding of the drivers of complex fraud schemes, and possess the ability to conduct large scale deep dives to develop insights about emerging schemes used to conduct abuse on our eCommerce platform. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills to detect patterns of potential return fraud and abuse from multiple datasets.
Key job responsibilities
- Deep dive data from multiple streams to identify cases involving large scale return fraud and abuse
- Leverage SQL to conduct further data mining and risk analyses of complex data sets to identify trends that deviate from normal customer return behavior
- Organize comprehensive and accurate case documents and data packets for use in Legal and Law enforcement referrals
- Provide analytically derived solutions to mitigate current and emerging return fraud and abuse schemes
- Communicate program issues, mitigation opportunities and recommended solutions in a concise and professional manner to all levels of leadership
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance existing reporting mechanisms and develop new ones
A day in the life
- Identify egregious patterns of return fraud/abuse and collaborate with various partner teams accordingly to build case scope
- Efficiently construct comprehensive case referrals for presentment to internal and external partners including Amazon Legal & Law enforcement
- Provide on-site and/or remote training (some travel may be required) to S&LP field partners pertaining to our team’s role/scope, common abuse schemes, how we collaborate with the field to drive mitigation efforts, current/future initiatives, etc.
- Provide case/project updates as needed to partner teams
- Consistently demonstrate a ‘Bias for Action’ & ‘Think Big’ mentality through continuous exploratory research to identify how we can further our Investigative reach

About the team
The AMER Investigations eCommerce team is comprised of experts operating in various domains including customer return fraud/abuse, seller/vendor fraud and stolen goods investigations. The Customer Fraud team in particular pursues investigative matters of internal and external customer return fraud and abuse, as well as loss mitigation efforts, for the North American Marketplace.
Basic Qualifications
- 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship
- Experience developing and implementing of standards, policies and programs or equivalent
- Knowledge of data mining & analysis with tools such as SQL or similar
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
- Certified Fraud Examiner or similar certification
