Sanofi Intrépide Research Laboratories is a new initiative designed to identify, incubate, validate and advance science, technology and business opportunities that are deemed to be crucial for Sanofi’s near-, mid- and long-term pipeline strategy. It has a global presence, China and US. For our US operations, it consists of the Intrépide Core Team, offering strategic, scientific, technological and operational support, and several Research Laboratories, focusing on science and executing breakthrough projects.
We are seeking a dynamic, exceptional scientist to join our Core Team as a Laboratory Lead, reporting to the Head of Planning and Implementation. This role combines oversight of our Intrépide Research Laboratory scientific executions, manage staff scientists, and support global ecosystem partnerships formation and synchronized executions. The ideal candidate brings a strong scientific background in pharmacology (in vitro biology and in vivo pharmacology), Research lab operations, and pharmaceutical research experience in agile settings. They will maintain quality standards across cutting-edge research activities, foster an entrepreneurial laboratory environment, and establish collaborative relationships with external partners. Success in this position requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to coordinate complex research programs, and the scientific acumen to effectively translate between research teams and external partners. As a dynamic leader, the candidate will consistently promote scientific rigor and creative solutions for challenges, optimize resources to maximize innovation potential, and implement forward-thinking approaches while ensuring seamless integration between internal capabilities and specialized outsourced services.

Main Responsibilities:
+ Play a key role in designing and managing the business and physical lab infrastructure of Intrépide Research Labs, in collaboration with facility and operation teams, aiming for highest productivity of our efforts, including internal efforts and leveraging the external ecosystems.
+ Provide strategic leadership in establishing and managing external partnerships and Contract Research Organization (CRO) relationships. Oversee the full lifecycle of CRO management, including rigorous screening, contract negotiations, and progress monitoring, operational efficiency, productive interface; in addition, monitor and mitigate risks to maximize the impact of collaborative efforts
+ Work directly with CROs and our Intrépide Research Labs to ensure the scientific quality and minimize operational hurdles for scientists, enabling them to focus on scientific breakthroughs
+ Support Head of Sanofi Intrépide Strategic Execution to actively engage in fostering collaborations with academic institutions and equivalent organizations. Support program acquisition or partnership development by facilitating stakeholder engagement, driving discussions, negotiating agreements, and ensuring smooth execution for impactful and sustainable collaborations.
+ Implement effective business operating model to enhance science-rich and practical culture, and promote collaboration across diverse functional teams, fostering an agile and goal-driven team dynamics.
+ Initiate and implement an execution framework to support the establishment of each endorsed Research Lab. It includes optimizing resource allocation, research lab building. Work closely with Execution & Excellence team on material and supply management, laboratory functions, and regulatory compliance
+ Support the coordination and management of legal processes and documentation essential for establishing and maintaining external collaborations. Work closely with legal teams, stakeholders, and partners to ensure timely completion of contracts, agreements, and compliance procedures, safeguarding the integrity and efficiency of collaborative efforts.
+ Support budget planning and continuous tracking of expenditures to maintain financial alignment throughout the incubator's operational phases, ensuring optimal resource utilization and fiscal responsibility.
About You
Basic Qualifications:
+ Master of Science or above in life sciences
+ 10+ years of comprehensive experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical sector
+ Deep understanding and extensive hand on experience in drug discovery
+ 5+ years dedicated specifically to leading and managing research operations, driving excellence, supporting scientific innovation, and implementing strategic initiatives within dynamic, research-intensive environments
+ 5+ years’ extensive background in CRO management with a well-established CRO network. Highly skilled and experienced in conducting CRO evaluations, contract negotiations, project execution, esp. in Biotech environment where discovery heavily relies on outsourcing.
+ Highly motivated, performance-oriented and result-driven for goal delivery
+ Demonstrated success in collaborating with cross-functional teams, influencing key stakeholders, and fostering external partnerships.
+ Proven ability in both verbal and written communication, to effectively report insights and share critical information across diverse partners (internal and external)
+ Language Requirements: Fluent in English is required; Chinese is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in incubator or early-stage biotech environments, with a record of building research operations from the ground up.
+ Knowledge in Immunology, Oncology, Rare disease, Neuroscience, and emerging technologies.
+ Strong interpersonal skills to foster relationships and align stakeholders with project objectives and business goals.
+ Ability to communicate in Chinese is a plus
+ Experience to work with teams in different time zones

The salary range for this position is:
$147,000.00 - $212,333.33
All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs.
