    THE POSITION

    If you possess strong leadership skills and attention to detail, the Department of Corrections' (DOC) State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette may have the perfect opportunity for you. We are seeking highly organized and detail-oriented individuals to join our dynamic team as Corrections Officer 3s. In this role, you will oversee subordinate staff and be responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and proper operation of the institution.     DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    As a Corrections Officer 3, your duties will include supervising officers and ensuring that they comply with all policies, procedures, and regulations governing custody and control at SCI Fayette. You will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and monitoring correctional officer duties; conducting inspections; and completing a daily inspection report. Additionally, you will monitor officer assignments and strive to achieve maximum effectiveness with a minimum number of personnel. This role also involves conducting employee performance evaluations and interviews for potential subordinate staff, as well as providing training to support staff.

     

    In this position, you will conduct daily tours of inmate housing units and address any concerns. Y ou will maintain a safe and secure environment for all inmates and staff members. This includes conducting regular security checks and addressing any issues that may arise. Additionally, you will be expected to participate in counseling inmates on personal and adjustment issues, as well as maintaining through records and reports of all activities and incidents within the institution. Your role as an overseer of daily schedules and operations is crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution and promoting a positive and healthy environment for all individuals involved.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    + Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

    + Work hours and schedule to be determined. Work schedule will include rotating days off.

    + Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

    + This position is eligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

    + Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    + One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ;or

    + Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)

    Other Requirements:

    + Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

    + PA residency requirement (https://www.employment.pa.gov/Additional%20Info/Pages/default.aspx) is currentlywaivedfor this title.
