About the Position: Department of the Army Police Officer (Military Ocean Terminal) with the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), 596th US Army Transportation Surface Brigade Police/Security Division, Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point located in Southport, North Carolina. Responsibilities Conduct waterside security patrols of U.S. Military, non-military, and foreign ships. Perform protection duties to deter unauthorized access to installation. Exercise search and arrest authority to apprehend suspects. Perform required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency. Respond to and investigate emergency calls. Protection of life and property on the installation. Maintain qualifications with assigned weapons. Operate a firearm in the performance of duty in accordance with proper procedures. Conduct traffic Law Enforcement patrol using specialized equipment. Establish an incident perimeter to defeat attackers as a member of the tactical team. Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work on a police force; work as a military police officer; knowledge of laws and regulations; law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques; and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Access Control Arrest/Apprehension Critical Incident Response Firearms Traffic Control Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This is a Security & Intelligence Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 13 months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition. This position is obligated. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour. You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation and willing to be displaced under reduction in force procedures upon the return of the former incumbent.
