The Georgia Department of Education is searching for an Assistant Director of Accounting. Under limited supervision, the primary responsibilities include managing the daily Finance and Business Operations Accounting processes and assisting with the migration from PeopleSoft to Workday Software. Duties include but are not limited to,
+ Assist the Director of Accounting with division management and planning
+ Manage, develop, and maintain a comprehensive financial reporting program which integrates Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, statutory accounting requirements, federal reporting requirements, and agency fiscal policies and procedures
+ Develop a system to retain and track all records in accordance with federal guidelines
+ Recommend and implement accounting policies and procedures in accordance with statutory and professionally accepted standards;
+ Effectively communicate with GaDOE administrators
+ Maintain knowledge of federal regulations, guidelines, and reporting requirements, as well as current trends and developments in the field and incorporate pertinent new knowledge in the performance of other responsibilities
+ Maintain a positive working relationship with local, state, and federal agencies; and
+ Assist the Director of Accounting with special projects and other duties as assigned
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
+ Master of Business Administration, CPA, or Governmental Accounting Certification
+ Strong knowledge of PeopleSoft and/or Workday software
+ Strong knowledge of Accounting functions (including but not limited to general ledger reconciliations, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries)
+ Strong knowledge of SAO Business Processes, Accounting Policies, and State Chart of Accounts
+ Experience with the financial and single audit process
+ Experience with Budgetary Compliance Report (BCR) and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
+ Working knowledge of governmental accounting standards
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot tables, V-lookup, etc.)
+ Effective communication skills

Bachelor's degree in accounting and five (5) years of professional accounting job-related experience, which includes three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Sr Mgr, Accounting (FIM012) or equivalent position.
