THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC) is seeking someone like you to fill a full-time, permanent Fisheries Biologist 3 position with the Division of Fish Production Services. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As the Fisheries Biologist 3 in this position, you will lead the PFBC’s fish disease management program. Responsibilities in this role will include overseeing administration, training, public relations, coordination, and operations to successfully diagnose and treat fish diseases in the agency’s 12 State Fish Hatcheries. You will also serve as principal investigator on research projects involving disease management and treatment related to hatchery and fishery problems from conducting the studies through clearly and concisely reporting each one’s results and conclusions.
With independent initiative, creativity, and teamwork, you will represent the PFBC through interagency coordination and cooperative research supporting the fish disease management effort. Our team will rely on you to provide guidance and makes decisions about fish treatment and disease prevention; best management practices, record keeping and reporting; and the health and safety of subordinate staff. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Benner Springs Hatchery.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ One year of experience as a Fisheries Biologist 2, PFBC (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
+ Two years of professional experience conducting fish studies, fish investigations, or fish research and a bachelor’s degree in a biological science that includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology;or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology..
