The individual will also assist with lab ordering and the maintenance of laboratory supplies for the lab group. The technologist will have the opportunity to work with the principle investigator to carry out independent molecular, behavioral, and genetic studies to deepen our understanding of mosquito biology.

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY

The Laursen Laboratory ( https://www.biology.washington.edu/people/profile/willem-laursen ) studies how insects sense the external environment as well as their own internal state, with a particular emphasis on understanding the cells and molecules that detect temperature, humidity, and chemosensory (taste) cues. The animals we primarily study, vector mosquitoes, use these senses to find human hosts, mating partners, and appropriate sites to lay their eggs, making the study of these sensory modalities important for both the basic science insights obtained and human health. To address these questions, we are developing new genetic tools and strategies to enhance basic research in the lab and pest control approaches in the field. We pair these genetic approaches with a combination of molecular biology, physiology and behavioral analysis. The position is particularly well-suited for individuals looking for = 2 years of full-time laboratory experience prior to pursuing graduate or professional school and all contributions will be considered for research publications.
