The primary duties of University of Washington Athletic Department coaches are to teach, instruct, educate and impart knowledge to student-athletes regarding the rules and fundamentals of their respective sport with the goal to continuously improve and achieve athletic excellence.
**Responsibilities – can include but not be limited to** Program Leadership & Coaching:
• Assist the Head Coach in the leadership, planning, and execution of a nationally competitive NCAA Division I volleyball program.
• Support the design and implementation of high-intensity practices, preseason training, and competitive strategies.
• Provide on-court instruction during training and matches with a focus on individual skill development and team systems.
• Lead the preparation of scout teams and implement detailed opponent scouting reports using video and data.
Elite-Level Recruiting:
• Identify, evaluate, and recruit top national and international prospective student-athletes.
• Build strong relationships with recruits, families, and club/high school coaches through regular communication and in-person visits.
• Plan and manage official/unofficial visits, recruiting travel, and event coverage in coordination with the recruiting coordinator.
• Ensure recruiting practices adhere to NCAA, conference, and institutional policies.
Video, Analytics & Technology:
• Utilize advanced performance analysis software (e.g., Volleymetrics, DataVolley) to support player development and match preparation.
• Analyze match and practice footage with the coaching staff and student-athletes to drive continuous improvement.
• Track team and individual statistics and apply data to inform tactical and strategic decisions.
Student-Athlete Development & Wellness:
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture rooted in respect, accountability, and excellence.
• Support the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes in collaboration with academic advisors, sports psychologists, and athletic training staff.
• Serve as a mentor and role model, helping student-athletes navigate the demands of a Power 5 athletics environment.
Operations, Media & Outreach:
• Coordinate with sports information, creative media, and external relations to elevate the visibility and branding of the volleyball program.
• Assist with the organization of travel logistics, equipment, and day-to-day operations.
• Represent the program at alumni, donor, and community engagement events.
• Assist with the planning and execution of camps and clinics as part of recruiting and community outreach.
Compliance & Institutional Responsibility:
• Uphold and promote the mission, values, and compliance standards of the University, NCAA, conference, and State of Washington.
• Participate in regular compliance training and maintain accurate documentation as required.
• Maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism at all times.
Other Duties:
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience coaching volleyball.
Additional Requirements:
Demonstrated recruiting abilities. Strong computer and organizational skills and a passion for volleyball.
_Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements._ **DESIRED REQUIREMENTS**
CAP Level 2 or above, collegiate playing experience.
