Job Summary:
This opening is for a Hydraulic Installation Senior Design Engineer in the Wheeled Products Hydraulic Installation team focused on Large Wheel Loader and Underground – Hard Rock product lines. Hydraulic Installation comprises placement of hydraulic components (pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, etc.) and designing the routing connections between these components to create a functioning hydraulic system. Routing connections includes design of hose assemblies, tube assemblies, sheet metal fabrications, and selection of hardware for retention and mounting.
As a Senior Design Engineer at Caterpillar, you will have an opportunity to direct and participate in the design and development of new product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.
Responsibilities/Job Duties
• Have thorough hydraulic installation expertise (or a related design field) on construction or mining equipment.
• Provide technical expertise and mentoring of less experienced team members
• Coordinate with team leader to adjust resource levels to fit the workload.
• Collaborate with value chain partners to develop goals regarding New Product Introduction, Continuous Product Improvement, and Cost Reduction for the hydraulic installation team.
Degree Requirement:
Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

• Consults on benefits and drawbacks of top-down design vs. bottom-up design.
• Compares and contrasts uses of bird's-eye views and worm's-eye views.
Product Design - MFG:
• Develops improvement plans for senior management and evaluates the outcome of the design against the functionality.
• Advises others on the development of multiple products and their functionality.
• Trains others on advanced tools and approaches of product design.
• Monitors the processes and procedures of a complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met.
• Evaluates feedback from customers and consults on functional weaknesses.
• Controls design and development costs of a proposed product through effective resource coordination.
Product Design and Development:
• Builds three-dimensional models with basic materials.
• Communicates with professionals to understand various requirements of product design.
• Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use.
• Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.
• Assists in building a complex prototype of product.

The primary location for this position is Decatur, IL

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
