Hillcrest Hospital's 4 West Tower Med/Surg Unit provides orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, and trauma services to adult and geriatric patients requiring medical surgical, and telemetry care on an inpatient and observational basis. Some of the clinical specialties of this unit include congestive heart failure, heart conditions, orthopaedics, vascular diseases, neurological diseases, and neurosurgery.
As a Level 2 trauma unit, caregivers can gain valuable trauma experience and skills in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, this team has a strong focus on Shared Governance and promotes work-life balance.
A caregiver in this role works days, 7 a.m. -- 7:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Participate in a residency core curriculum based on their individual learning needs.
+ Provide direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
+ Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care activities based on the following: acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability.
+ Initiate and/or maintain interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients.
+ Respond to data indicating risk to an individual's health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent the risk.
+ Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
+ Comply with established hospital/department personnel policies.
+ Use communication strategies in order to achieve desirable outcomes.
+ Document patient's medical record according to established guidelines.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
+ Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)
+ New graduate RN or less than one year of RN work experience
+ Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) upon hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Bachelor's of Science in nursing

Physical Requirements:
+ Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
+ Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
+ Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
+ Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
+ Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
+ Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
