    Job Description

    The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) provides for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and maintains and enhances the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of City residents. Fleet Services is dedicated to ensuring the safety and operational readiness of the department's vehicles and equipment. This is achieved through proactive maintenance, strict adherence to state-mandated inspections, and comprehensive compliance programs.

     

    Fleet Services is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the Executive Director of Fleet Operations, reporting to and supporting the Associate Deputy Commissioner. This key member of the Fleet Services senior team will also assist the Commissioner in achieving the Division's operational and programmatic goals.

    Specific duties may include but not limited to:

    - Work to provide a discrimination-free work environment for Fleet Services.

     

    - Act as an adviser to the ADC & senior management team providing oversight and guidance to projects of high importance.

     

    - Represent the Associate Deputy Commissioner in his absence.

     

    - Prioritize critical issues and required information to facilitate efficient decision making.

     

    - Assist in overseeing a team of 160 employees across all five boroughs including managing repair shop operations, administration, compliance & fiscal office functions.

     

    - Collaborate with internal departments such as Operational divisions, the Commissioner’s Office, ACCO, Budget, DCAS, and OMB. He/she will also review and approve procurement of goods, services, vehicles, and construction equipment, ensuring alignment with user needs, DCAS initiatives, mayoral orders, and regulatory requirements

     

    - Oversee Compliance office operations including the Agency’s Driver Authorization program, DMV licensing notifications, EZ Pass toll program and congestion pricing fees, collision reporting, electric vehicle charging, etc.

     

    - Oversee all technical, budgeting and procurement personnel including supervising staff, ensuring accuracy of yearly inventory accounting, compliance with City regulations, Office of the Comptroller, DCAS, the Procurement Policy Board (PPB), Office of the Mayor, and collaborating closely with internal and external audit staff.

     

    - Manage all aspects of repair operations including monitoring service levels, maintaining optimal staffing levels, overseeing vendor and city-administered parts operation and vendor-based repairs, overseeing the City’s M5 fleet database, and ensuring access to innovative repair shop technology and best practices.

     

    - Review and approve vehicle specifications, supervise cost-effective procurement practices, and developing financial/budget strategies to support a safety-focused and cost-efficient operation that meets the needs of a diverse operational Agency.

    Qualifications

    Qualification Requirements

    1. Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an Auto Machinist, Auto

     

    Mechanic, Auto Mechanic (Diesel), Electrician (Automobile) or Machinist, two

    years of which must have been at a supervisory level; or

    2. At least five years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school, or relevant education in an accredited college, to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational high school. One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each 30 semester credits in college. However, all candidates must have the two years of supervisory experience described in "1" above.

    License Requirements

    Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. For appointment to certain positions a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions may be required. The Class B Commercial Driver License with no restrictions must be maintained for the duration of employment.
