    The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five

    The Team You’ll Work With

    The Mayor's Community Affairs Unit (CAU) is the fundamental connection between City Hall and New

    York City residents throughout the five boroughs. The primary mission of CAU is to establish deep

     

    partnerships with communities in order to actively engage New Yorkers in City government. To this

     

    end, CAU is directly responsible for integrating government into communities by working with Mayoral

     

    agencies to ensure the effective and efficient deployment of government services and the Mayor’s top

     

    policy priorities and initiatives.

     

    The Problems You’ll Solve

    The Director of NYC Shooting Response is a leadership role reporting to the Deputy Commissioner of

    Operations. This position focuses on coordinating comprehensive strategies for supporting victims,

    fostering community healing, addressing the root causes of gun violence, and strengthening citywide

    partnerships. The Director will oversee critical initiatives and responses related to gun violence

     

    incidents and lead efforts to promote recovery and resilience across New York City communities.

    Responsibilities will include:

    - Serve as the primary liaison between city agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders

     

    involved in gun violence prevention and response.

     

    - Collaborate with representatives for Public Safety/OEM/ NYPD /DYCD/ MOCJ/ OPGV/ DOHMH

     

    on strategic initiatives and critical responses addressing shooting incidents.

     

    - Develop and oversee victim support services, including counseling, victim advocacy, and

     

    financial assistance programs.

     

    - Lead youth engagement initiatives such as mentorship, conflict resolution workshops, and

     

    school-based trauma support.

     

    - Coordinate community healing efforts, including trauma recovery centers, restorative justice

     

    circles, and healing events.

     

    - Support economic recovery for businesses and communities affected by shootings through

     

    grants and investment programs.

     

    - Build partnerships with nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and tenant associations to

     

    strengthen community networks.

     

    - Develop public awareness campaigns on gun violence and provide trauma-informed training for

     

    community leaders and educators.

     

    - Oversee the implementation of data-driven approaches to identify trends, prioritize resources,

     

    and measure the impact of initiatives.

     

    - Prepare executive-level correspondence, memos, and policies related to gun violence response

     

    and prevention.

     

    - Handle inquiries, action plans, and communication dissemination on behalf of the division and

     

    Deputy Commissioner.

     

    About You

    The preferred candidate must have excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, along with strong

    communication and organization skills. Also important is the ability to deal with a diverse constituency

     

    and work productively under pressure, both as an individual and part of a team. Skills required include:

     

    - You have a Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college.

     

    - You have a keen ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments.

     

    - You have the ability to work with all levels of staff, inside and outside the agency.

     

    - You have the ability to work independently and exercise a high degree of initiative to

     

    accomplish tasks and solve problems.

     

    - You have the ability to prioritize and follow up while meeting deadlines.

     

    - You have excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

     

    - You have a professional demeanor.
