    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a talented Senior EO/IR Systems Engineer to provide technical contributions and leadership in various phases of product development, including product concept definition, system and subsystem sensor and optical requirements, architecture design, trade study analyses, performance modeling, extensive system testing, image quality assessments, troubleshooting and production transition support. The position will be responsible for performing and leading systems engineering efforts for EO/NIR/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR Imaging Sensors in Air/Maritime/Land and Handheld applications and developing / validating / maintaining range performance models to ensure mission performance. This person will also lead / participate in the product development lifecycle phases; SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR gate reviews. The role will develop and apply system engineering test methodologies and procedures to conduct EO/IR sensor subsystem imaging characterization, Design Verification Testing (DVT), First Article Test (FAT), and Factory Acceptance Testing (AT) of imaging sensors. The job will also conduct analysis, investigations and testing of considerable complexity for product development and help resolve any related production issues.

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

    + Lead and contribute to all aspects of systems engineering efforts for the development of EO/IR imaging sensor products in the areas of concept definition, requirements development, radiometric systems design and analysis, performance modeling and analysis, prototype testing, troubleshooting and performance verification.

    + Perform extensive trade studies and conduct vendor surveys to support concept and product development work for new sensor payloads, optical subsystems, product optimization, enhancements and upgrades.

    + Create specifications and test plans for systems with emphasis on sensor technology, optical systems, and system integration and test, and develop flow down specifications for subsystems.

    + Perform Lab testing to characterize EO/MWIR/LWIR imaging sensors & camera performance against product specification and requirements.

    + Provide interdisciplinary design and product support to ensure that the design implementation will meet specifications.

    + Perform lab & field testing to characterize gimbal and handheld EO/MWIR/LWIR imaging surveillance systems performance against product and customer specifications and requirements.

    + Lead and conduct extensive laboratory testing and qualification efforts for new and existing EO/IR sensor products. Develop all necessary test plans (DTV, FAT, ATP), lead and perform data collection, analyze data, and document results.

    + Provide systems engineering support and coordination for ensuring optical, mechanical, software, and electrical design conformance to requirements of the overall system.

    + Perform modeling analyses such as target acquisition range performance and optical performance calculations

    + Provide business development support in the areas of new customer requirements analysis, proposal writing, sensor performance modeling and fielding technical inquiries.

    + Provide systems engineering support to manufacturing, production and customer service groups as needed in support of existing products, and take a leading role in troubleshooting technical problems.

    + Provide significant contributions to technical presentations, reports, analysis, and proposals to customers.

    + Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering team on program execution.

    + Coordinate with external vendors on technical matters for both standard and custom products and new technology developments.

    + Mentor other engineers, technicians, and others supporting similar technical efforts.

    + Contribute to Intellectual Property development and/or author and/or make substantial contributions to technical papers.

    + Support New Product Introduction (NPI) process and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

    + Support Business Development and Sales in the areas of new customer requirements analysis, proposal writing, sensor performance modeling and fielding technical inquiries.

    + Provide systems engineering support to manufacturing, as requested

    + Perform other job-related duties, as required.

    Job Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree required (MS or Ph.D. preferred) in Engineering, Physics, or Optical Sciences fields.

    + 8-12+ years of direct Systems Engineering experience in EO/MWIR/LWIR imaging system product design, development, and testing.

    + Full System Engineering experience in development of large and complex products with EO/IR imaging sensors, Laser tracking & detection, fine and sophisticated mechanical and control subsystems, gimbal systems etc. DOD/Space system engineering experience is a plus.

    + Knowledgeable in a wide range of test execution methods including Image uniformity, 3D noise, MTF, NETD, FOV, Boresight, latency, and other test metrics, for both Infrared and Visible imaging systems.Strong experience and capability in leading or working with a multi-discipline team on new product development from conceptual stage to PDR, CDR and to LRIP

    + Experience in leading or participating multidisciplinary engineering efforts (Mechanical, Thermal, electrical, firmware/software etc.)

    + Demonstrated experience in developing, maintaining, and tracking specification and requirements compliance matrix, risk identification and risk mitigation.

    + Experience in system modeling and analysis using the following software tools: NV-IPM / NVTHERMIP, IRWindows ATE SW, NVLabCap, MODTRAN, ZEMAX, MATLAB / Math Cad, ImageJ).

    + Experience in EO/IR imaging sensor/imaging system test and characterization

    + Experience and theoretical knowledge of VIS, SWIR, MWIR and LWIR detectors & FPA’s (Silicon, InSb/HgCdTe/SLS, InGaAs, Uncooled Microbolometers)

    + General Knowledge of Image processing concepts, basic algorithms for image correction & enhancement, video pipeline processing, and communication interfaces

    + Experience with laser devices (pointers, illuminators, rangefinders, designators), a plus.

    + Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (i.e., SysML, CAMEO), a plus.

    + Collaborative with excellent communications skills and experience presenting to senior management.

    + Good persuasive writing skills and proposal leadership/contribution experience

    + Ability to obtain security clearance, if needed.
