    Data Center Technician - Technical IT 2

    **Location:** Hoffman Estates, IL 60192

    **Duration:** 6 – 18 months Contract

    **Pay Range:** $20/hr. – $25/hr.

    **Schedule:** Regular Business Hours (Monday–Friday).

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a **Data Center Technician - Technical IT 2** - to support day-to-day operational tasks in a dynamic data center environment. The ideal candidate will assist with preparing, staging, installing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning IT hardware while following strict safety, procedural, and documentation standards. This is an onsite role requiring a hands-on technician with experience supporting IT equipment and infrastructure.

    Top 3 Required Skills:

    1. **Hands-on Experience with IT Hardware Support** At least 1 year of experience supporting computer hardware, servers, or related IT infrastructure **.**

    2. **Basic Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Skills** Ability to identify hardware issues, follow standard procedures to diagnose problems, and replace faulty components.

    3. **Knowledge of Safety and Setup Protocols in a Data Center Environment** Understanding and execution of proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling according to deployment and safety standards.

    Responsibilities:

    + Prepare, stage, set up, and perform startups/shutdowns of IT hardware (e.g., servers, racks, hard drives, switches) in accordance with standardized procedures, checklists, and network design tasks (NDTs).

    + Perform post-installation quality checks and ensure proper grounding, cabling, labeling, and staging.

    + Conduct diagnostics and standard troubleshooting procedures; identify faults and replace defective components as needed.

    + Execute hardware decommissions and routine refreshes (e.g., memory upgrades, OS rebuilds) with minimal supervision.

    + Report, document, and escalate incidents in accordance with escalation protocols and communicate effectively with Data Center Technician Leads.

    + Monitor software and systems for hardware failures or performance issues and respond accordingly.

    + Assist programmers and system analysts with program debugging and system testing.

    + Operate spreadsheets and other tools to manage data and generate reports.

    Required Qualifications:

    + High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

    + 1+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.

    + Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and related components.

    + Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).

    + Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed.

    + Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

    + Basic ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Associate’s degree in computer Programming or equivalent technical training.

    + 2-4 years of related experience in a data center or IT support environment.

    + Prior experience with data center protocols, deployments, or diagnostics.

    + Experience using remote management tools and asset tracking systems.
