Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Architect to support a North Carolina university in building and maintaining modern data architecture solutions. This role will focus on designing scalable ETL pipelines, supporting cloud-based data platforms, and setting data engineering standards across teams. The ideal candidate has a strong background in SQL, Python, and PySpark, with deep experience in data modeling and modern cloud data tools like Databricks or Microsoft Fabric.
*This is a hands-on technical role with architectural responsibilities, requiring someone who can both build complex solutions and support existing infrastructure.

Skills and Requirements
Advanced SQL skills for building and optimizing queries across large datasets.
Strong experience with Python and PySpark for data pipeline development.
Deep understanding of data modeling, particularly star schemas and Kimball methodology.
Proven ability to design complex ETL architectures in a modern cloud environment.
Hands-on experience with Databricks for building and maintaining lakehouse architecture (or strong transferable experience with similar/ MS Fabric, or Snowflake).
Experience working with Azure Data Factory and related Azure services.
Strong understanding of cloud networking, including private endpoints, NSGs, and secure credentialing.
Comfortable working with data governance and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, FERPA). Databricks administration experience (clusters, jobs, access control).
Experience with Azure DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines and YAML configuration.
Familiarity with Power BI for reporting and dashboards.
Prior experience working in a higher education environment.
Knowledge of APIs, ODBC, and integrating with third-party systems. null
