Job Summary:
Assistant Professor of Media Communication, West Texas A&M University
The Department of Communication at West Texas A&M University invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Media Communication beginning August 2025. The position carries the expectation for excellence in teaching, research, and professional service. A qualified applicant should have an established record of successfully teaching various communication courses at the undergraduate level, especially advertising and strategic communication courses.
A Ph.D. in media communication or a related field is required. Industry experience in the advertising environment and advising a competitive student advertising team is preferred.

Work Performed:
+ Teaching undergraduate courses in advertising, research, and data analysis, which might include Advertising Principles, Advertising Campaigns, Digital Advertising, Media Sales, Advertising/Public Relations Research Methods, Ad/PR Writing, Data Analytics, and Media Design.
+ Advising and mentoring the advertising team, Buffalo Advertising, which might include client work, participating in competitions, budgeting and managing expenses, travel, and other responsibilities related to team activity.
+ Teaching graduate courses and helping graduate students work toward completion of thesis and non-thesis options as advisor and committee member.
+ Actively participating in discipline-specific professional associations (e.g., AEJMC, AAA, ICA, AAF, NCA, PRSA) and keeping updated with scholarly research.
+ Regularly giving presentations at peer-reviewed and scholarly conferences.
+ Regularly publishing articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
+ Supporting the department, college, and university through regular professional service such as serving on thesis committees, supervising senior projects, serving the university and field, and community outreach.
+ Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and committing to departmental and college initiatives.
Necessary Qualifications:
+ Candidate must have a Ph.D. in media communication, advertising, or a related field at the time the appointment starts (August 2025).
+ Candidate must demonstrate quality teaching experience in media communication.
+ Candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and teach quality traditional and web-based courses.
+ Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to keeping abreast with the industry by maintaining knowledge and skill relevancy through continuing education and professional development.
+ Candidate should have strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills, as well as initiative and the ability to excel in a student-centered environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with web-based course development and delivery.
+ Experience with advising and mentoring students.
+ Experience with advising/mentoring a student advertising team.
+ Experience with teaching graduate-level communication courses.
+ Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign).
