Description
Amazon seeks a business intelligence engineer to be a key partner for the Amazon Advertising business, specifically the Global LCS Ads Account Management (AM) organization, with a range of products offerings for advertisers. We’re looking for a top technical and analytical mind capable of extracting value out of our large and disparate data sets. You will influence the direction of the business by leveraging our data to deliver insights that drive decisions, evolution of our products and the way they fit into Amazon's ecosystem. Additionally, you’ll help streamline and simplify the metric reporting needs for our operating cadences such as daily, weekly and monthly business reviews.
Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, comfortable working through ambiguity, conceptualizing and leading complex initiatives from end to end, and has an entrepreneurial spirit. In addition to working with many stakeholders internally and externally, this role requires working through ambiguity, demonstrating good judgment under pressure and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key job responsibilities
• Build small- to mid-size business intelligence (BI) solutions – data sets, queries, reports, dashboards, analyses – or components of larger solutions to answer business questions with data
• Use well-defined requirements to build a solution that enables effective, data-driven business decisions. Deliver end product on schedule
• Create and populate data structures using one or more schema definition languages (e.g. DDL, SDL, XSD, RDF)
• Write secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code with minimal defects, and automate manual processes where possible
• Use one or more industry analytics visualization tools (e.g. Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, MicroStrategy, PowerBI) and, as needed, statistical methods (e.g. t-test, Chi-squared) to deliver actionable insights to stakeholders
• Invent, refine, and develop BI solutions to ensure they meet the needs of the business and team goals
• Troubleshoot data, analyses, and code, research root causes, propose solutions, and take ownership in next steps for their resolutions
A day in the life
Successful business intelligence engineers for this role are excited by the idea of creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity and the pace of a company whose ship cycles are measured in weeks, not years. Daily activities include: (1) Collaboration with business and finance stakeholders on methods for solving relevant business problems, (2) gathering project requirements, (3) developing tools utilizing proper testing methods, (4) partnering with upstream data teams to assess project impact, and (5) contributing to a forward-looking project roadmap on managed tools.
