    Northrop Grumman Space Systems is looking for an **Sr. Principal/Staff Engineer Guidance Navigation Controls- Weapons Systems** to support the **Glide Phase Interceptor Program** within the **Launch Vehicles** business unit in **Chandler, Arizona** .

     

    Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms and software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft, spacecraft, submersibles, surface ships, missiles, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of launch, flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles and/or spacecraft.

     

    The Engineer/Principal GNC Engineer will design, develop, implement, verify, and test high-quality software and simulation toolchains. The candidate will be working on a 6 degree of freedom (6DOF) simulation to design and test missile flight code. The applicant will be creating and implementing 6DoF simulation models to evaluate system performance. The candidate should have extensive experience with missile flight dynamics, autopilot and guidance design and implementation into the missile flight code. The candidate should be able to mentor early career engineers. The candidate should have experience with C++ programing language, as well as Python and MATLAB.

     

    This position maybe offered at the Sr. Principal Engineer GNC Level 4 or Staff GNC Level 5.

    Basic Qualifications:

    If offered at the Engineer GNC Level 4 requires:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience.

    + Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

    + Proficiency in creating and maintaining analysis tools in C++, MATLAB and Python

    + Proficiency in C++ development in a Linux environment

    + Proficiency in MATLAB and Python toolchains

    + Experience designing, implementing and testing guidance algorithms

    + Experience tuning, implementing and testing autopilot parameters for missiles

    + Travel 25% of the time

     

    If offered at the Sr. Principal Engineer GNC Level 5 requires:

     

    + Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of experience, or a PhD and 9 years of experience.

    + Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

    + Proficiency in creating and maintaining analysis tools in C++, MATLAB and Python

    + Proficiency in C++ development in a Linux environment

    + Proficiency in MATLAB and Python toolchains

    + Extensive experience developing, implementing and testing guidance algorithms

    + Extensive experience developing, implementing and testing autopilot algorithms

    + Travel 25% of the time

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience working with GNC algorithms for hypersonic missiles

     

    Salary Range: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00Salary Range 2: $147,000.00 - $221,500.00

     

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

     

    Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
