    Certified Peer Recovery Specialist - Substance Use Disorder

    We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) to join our team. In this role, you will provide peer-based recovery support services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders. You will play a vital role in helping clients access resources, build recovery capital, and sustain long-term recovery through lived experience and empathetic support. What it’s like to work at the Rescue Mission of Trenton Founded in 1915 and located in Trenton New Jersey we serve men and women who have no place else to turn for shelter, clothing, treatment and food. We provide a safe, clean, warm refuge for the homeless, the hungry, the transient and the addicted. Our dedicated staff in the Shelter and our Behavioral Health Unit offer care, support and encouragement to all that reside here. Our services encourage individuals to reach their greatest potential and create an environment where one can live with dignity, build self-esteem, responsibility and hope. Our clients are assisted by staff with treatment options, medical help, education literature, housing, counseling and mental health treatment. This position is an important part of helping our clients navigate their Substance Use Disorders. Qualifications:

     

    + Certification: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential preferred. Candidates not currently certified must obtain CPRS within six (6) months of hire.

    + Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a residential or outpatient substance use treatment setting.

    Skills & Competencies:

    + Strong understanding of recovery and peer support ethics.

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    + Empathy, cultural competence, and teamwork.

    + Valid driver’s license

    + Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Utilize motivational interviewing and recovery-oriented approaches to promote abstinence and service engagement.

    + Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and demonstrate the possibility of recovery.

    + Assist clients in navigating and accessing onsite and community-based services.

    + Provide orientation to community resources that support rehabilitation and recovery.

    + Facilitate educational workshops, peer-led groups, and community meetings.

    + Provide transportation for clients to and from scheduled appointments as needed.

    Work Environment:

    This position operates in a shelter environment and may require occasional travel within the community. Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
