Description We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Pacific Grove, California. This long-term contract position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial success of the city by managing and analyzing critical accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach to financial reporting, compliance, and process improvements, ensuring the city's fiscal goals are met with precision and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review detailed financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.

• Reconcile financial discrepancies, maintain the general ledger, and oversee fixed asset management to support accurate financial operations.

• Assist in creating, monitoring, and analyzing budgets and forecasts to align with city-wide objectives.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including audits and tax filings, to maintain accountability.

• Collaborate with the finance team to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.

• Mentor and guide less experienced accounting staff, fostering their growth and technical expertise.

• Perform month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely financial reporting.

• Utilize advanced accounting software and tools, including NetSuite, Oracle, and SAP, to manage financial data effectively.

• Support audit processes by preparing required documentation and addressing inquiries from external auditors. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in government or nonprofit settings.

• Proficiency in accounting systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP, along with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

• Strong technical knowledge in financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across teams and departments.

• Experience with audits or certifications related to government or nonprofit funding is preferred.
