• Security Engineer

    Robert Half Technology (Houston, TX)


    Description

    We’re looking for a highly motivated security professional with a strong investigative mindset and a solid foundation in both networking and systems administration. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, responds quickly to emerging threats, and proactively improves defenses through thoughtful rule tuning and threat hunting.

     

    + Investigate security incidents and alerts generated by EDR, IDS, and SIEM platforms

    + Analyze suspicious behavior and escalate or remediate as necessary

    + Tune and create detection rules to minimize false positives and enhance coverage

    + Collaborate with IT, infrastructure, and application teams to understand system behavior and potential vulnerabilities

    + Monitor network and endpoint activity for anomalies or indicators of compromise

    + Maintain strong documentation and incident logs

    + Participate in proactive threat hunting across the environment

    + Assist in developing and refining playbooks for incident response

    Requirements

    + 3+ years in cybersecurity, SOC, or incident response

    + Hands-on experience with EDR tools (e.g., CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Defender for Endpoint)

    + Familiarity with IDS/IPS systems and signature tuning (e.g., Suricata, Snort, Palo Alto, Zeek)

    + Strong skills in SIEM tools (Splunk, Sentinel, ELK) including query writing and rule creation

    + Solid background in networking and/or system administration (Linux, Windows Server)

    + Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, common protocols, and system logs

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills

    + Scripting (Python, PowerShell) is a plus
