    *This position may be eligible for the statutory increase, effective July 1, 2025.* ** WORK UNIT OVERVIEW: The Board of Oil and Gas Conservation(BOGC)and its technical support staff are attached to the department for administrative purposes. The quasi-judicial board iscomprisedof seven members consisting of industry representatives, landowners, and an attorney. They administer Montana's oil and gas laws and the federal Underground Injection Control Program to promote conservation and prevent waste in the recovery of these resources through regulation of oil and gas exploration and production. The board and its staff issue drilling permits; classify wells;establishwell spacing units and pooling orders; inspect drilling, production, and seismic operations; investigate complaints; conduct engineering studies; and collect andmaintaincomplete well data and production information. *JOB OVERVIEW*: This position is theComplianceTechnicianand isresponsible forproviding services in support of department administrative and technical staff including technical level compliance activities, researching and mapping well locationsand various regulatory boundaries, assisting with plugging and reclamation project documentation,and ensuring the integrity of and public access to current BOGC information and data.Duties also includedeterminingwhere geological samples should be requiredusing independent judgment based on established criteria;and processing incoming drill cuttings and core samples to ensure the department's sample library is manageable, representative,accurateand up to date.Assistsin preparation of Environmental Assessments, gathers information from available sources to ensure compliance with MEPA in the EA/EIS process.The position performs or coordinates routine maintenance and repair activities of division vehiclesandoffice equipmentto ensureefficient,cost-effective operations,andmaximumlongevity. This position provides backup and coverage for other departmental staff when they are absent to ensure that essential duties are performed and mentors staff on incumbent’s responsibilities for the same purpose. Theposition reports to theAdministratoranddoes notsuperviseother staff. *Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities): /These job functions are the essential duties of the position and are not all-inclusive of all the duties that may be assigned to the incumbent./* Compliance, Map Maintenance and Staff Support- Provide a variety of services in support of department administrative and technical staff to assist with ongoing operations including technical level compliance activities, researching and mapping well locations, assisting with plugging and reclamation project documentation, and ensuring the integrity of and public access to current BOGC information and data. Cutting and Core Sample Processing - Using independent judgment based on established criteria determine which wells should be sampled; process incoming drill cuttings and core samples according to established guidelines to ensure the department's sample library is manageable, representative, accurate, and up to date. Other duties as assigned- This position will also be asked to provide backup and coverage/assistance to other departmental staff when key personnel are absent, and perform other duties as assigned by the administrator in support of the ongoing BOGC mission and objectives. This includes managing special projects, attending meetings and conferences, providingbackup forother staff,participating in ongoing training and educational programs as directed,lifting and moving heavy boxes or filing cabinets, picking up necessary maintenance supplies, driving to airportto pick up samples or staffand a variety of other duties as directed.The position performs or coordinates routine maintenance and repair activities of division vehiclesandoffice equipmentto ensureefficient,cost-effective operations, andmaximumlongevity. *Supervision: *This position does not supervise.
