ICF’s Technical Advisory team is doing just that. Our team works with clients to provide independent engineering and owners advisory/engineering services to enable project development, financing, and asset management, and to solve challenges related to the development, design, construction, operation, and analysis of the full range of energy generation and transmission projects. We deliver high-value technical diligence support and offer solutions for mitigating technical and commercial challenges encountered by our clients.
We are looking for a practice area leader across the range of electric supply technologies, with a particular focus on solar and battery energy storage systems (the “Electricity Systems Group”) to review and oversee our projects in these key areas, contribute to the continued evolution of our client offerings, manage our growing team, and direct the team’s business development and thought leadership efforts. The ideal candidate is an experienced and innovative leader with strong strategic and business management skills who can drive growth, foster strong client relationships, and leverage expertise and industry knowledge to deliver high-quality projects and sound opinions.
Working within the Technical Advisory group, your role as a practice area lead will include growing, marketing, selling, and delivering innovative, best-in-class consulting services. Your responsibilities will include delivering high-value technical diligence support and offering solutions to mitigate technical and commercial challenges encountered by our clients. You will lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams on projects of all scales; oversee project schedules, budgets, and resources; improve standards of practice to align with industry changes and improve efficiency and consistency; conduct subject matter expert reviews for solar and energy storage projects in particular; and support proposals for new projects.
As part of your leadership responsibilities, you will contribute to and oversee consulting assignments, review reports and certificates, and support team development, with direct responsibility for project financial performance and client relationship development.
This is a full-time position. While location is flexible, our preference is for this position to be co-located with our teams in Reston, VA or Golden, CO.
What you will do:
+ Serve as a senior technical energy advisor to clients.
+ Provide oversight and peer / management reviews for deliverables, including reports.
+ Manage a team of approximately ten team members.
+ Work closely with our other practice leads to direct the continued development of the team’s service offerings and market position in this space.
+ Lead efforts to establish and grow our technical advisory services with existing and new clients through the development and execution of a business plan.
+ Support growth by developing team members, mentoring emerging leaders, and ensuring high employee engagement.
+ Proactively manage planning, execution, and tracking of project and portfolio financial performance.
+ Build awareness of ICF’s capabilities in targeted marketing and outreach strategies and develop thought leadership to support business strategy.
+ Work with ICF leadership to align offerings across ICF to serve client needs.
+ Meet with clients and present at industry events.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other applicable discipline.
+ 10+ years’ experience in the energy sector, specifically, PV solar and BESS technology and utility-scale/commercial solar and BESS project management.
+ Experience as a people/team manager with direct reports (in addition to project manager experience).
+ Experience with solar resource and performance modeling, construction and operations, and due diligence and risk assessment processes.
+ Experience with project contracts including power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, supply contracts, balance of plant construction contracts, and/or operations and maintenance contracts.
+ Experience in technical research and writing industry-based technical papers (e.g. white papers).
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master's degree
+ 15+ years’ experience in the energy sector, specifically, PV solar and BESS technology and utility-scale/commercial solar and BESS project management.
+ Experience in wind and thermal technologies.
+ Previous experience managing and mentoring a team of 5-10 people.
+ Experience with PVsyst.
+ Experience in proposal writing with an emphasis on business development.
+ Experience with computer programming such as Python, Matlab, etc.

**Pay Range** - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$173,832.00 - $295,514.00
