    About the job:

    You will direct the development and implementation of a broad range of district recreation programs and services. You will be the liaison to public and private agencies for major Countywide recreation programs. You will exercise a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of management, administration, and supervision. You will coordinate the marketing and promotion of district recreational events, tournaments, contests, and other events.

     

    Essential Job Functions

     

    A Recreation Services Manager is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential functions:

     

    Directs, supervises and participates in the implementation, development and promotion of district level recreation activities such as arts and crafts, nature study, theater arts, music, dance, sports, and aquatics and for special groups such as youth, people with disabilities, older individuals, or recreation training personnel.

     

    Directs the preparation of instructions and materials for use in personnel training methods such as workshops and in-service trainings sessions.

     

    Assesses community interest in programs and activities to determine the most appropriate recreational services to meet the community`s needs; evaluates district programs and recreation activities and develops and recommends changes.

     

    Assists in the development of a comprehensive volunteer program including recruitment, training, and organization of community or special interest groups.

     

    Coordinates the promotion, organization, and supervision of district recreational and program events, tournaments, contests, and pageants.

     

    Acts as a liaison to public and private agencies for major Countywide recreation programs.

     

    Oversees contact with community groups, businesses and schools to publicize district recreation activities and secure volunteer programs.

     

    Supervises and participates in the generation of revenue for park programs and activities; collects and reconciles receipts and makes bank deposits.

     

    Prepares narrative and statistical reports on park usage and activities for review by the Assistant Regional Recreation Director.

     

    Prepares and submits budget estimates for special district programs.

     

    Monitors park facilities and reviews park programs to ensure that they are safe for public use and participation.

    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:

    Graduation from an accredited college* or university with a Bachelor`s degree or higher and one year of experience at the level of Recreation Services Supervisor.**

     

    Each additional year of experience will substitute for one year of college up to a maximum of two years.***

    Physical Class II - Light:

    This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiting light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    LICENSE:

    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    **EXPERIENCE AT THE LEVEL OFa Recreation Services Supervisor is demonstrated by experience supervising recreation activities at one or more parks or facilities and develops and administers specialized recreation programs and activities.     ***UNIT/EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: The interpretation for college degree substitution is for applicants who have additional years of experience, may substitute them for up to two years of the college requirement.

    + Applicants with two (2) years of collegeANDthree (3) years of experience at the level of Recreation Services Supervisor will qualify.

    + Two (2) years of college is interpreted as 60 semester/90 quarter units completed and passed from an accredited college.

     

    Veteran's Credit:If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score.     Examination Content:

    Part I- An online proctor testweighted 60%covering Verbal Ability, Management Potential, Achievement, Working Relationships, Analyzing Information, Learning Quickly, Working to High Quality Standards, Adapting to Change, Controlling Emotions, Willingness to Learn, Responsibility, Accepting Others, Showing Courtesy, Compliance with Rules and Regulations, and Working Energetically.

     

    Applicants must pass Part I to proceed with Part II score.

     

    Part II- A structured interview weighted 40% covering Professional/Technical Knowledge, Customer Focus, Financial Management, Office Computing, Oral Communication, Interpersonal Skills, Teamwork, Project Management, Law and Government, Planning, and Ability to Manage.

     

    The passing score for each assessment part is 70%.

     

    Per Civil Service Rule 7.19, the written test is not reviewable by candidates.

    TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS:

    If you have taken identical components recently for other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.
