The Early Preclinical Development (EPD) Team is seeking a scientist with expertise in inner ear histology to support discovery and IND-enabling animal studies. The candidate should have experience in histologic techniques specific to the inner ear, central nervous system (CNS), and/or retina (eye). Preference will be given to candidates with experience in inner ear histological preparations such as microdissection of mouse and non-human primate (NHP) inner ears. Proficiency in imaging, analysis, and data presentation preparation is required. Collaboration with cross-functional teams may be necessary to achieve the company's goals. The role requires an individual who is self-motivated and able to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Perform necropsy and collect various tissue and organs from animal models
+ Extract and process temporal bones from mice and non-human primates, and perform cochlear microdissection.
+ Prepare inner ear tissues for embedding, frozen sections, and molecular analyses.
+ Conduct immunohistochemistry (IHC), epifluorescent imaging, cochlear frequency mapping, and confocal microscopy.
+ Create graphs and charts from histologic data; prepare images for presentation.
+ Communicate results to stakeholders.
+ Develop or review immunohistochemistry protocols and imaging strategies.
+ Manage inventory and maintain database records.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams and coordinate with CRO for study execution.
+ Identify and implement operational efficiencies.
+ Occasionally work on weekends.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Biology or related scientific field, with experience in inner ear biology, vision, or CNS.
Additional and preferred skills:
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Suite).
+ Experience in addressing scientific problems and problem solving skills required.
+ Expertise with modern imaging techniques; epifluorescent and confocal microscopy is preferred.
+ Experience with image analysis software (ImageJ, Amira, LasX, Imaris).
+ Proficiency in image analysis utilizing at least one programming language such as Python or MATLAB
+ Anatomical knowledge in vision, hearing or CNS preferred.
+ Experience in microdissections (retina, organ of Corti or DRG whole-mount and dissections), and methods for histological preparation is necessary.
+ Strong technical lab skills (pipetting, reagent preparation, liquid handling).
+ Experience working with cell lines.
+ Knowledge in antibody characterization

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$69,000 - $179,300
Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
