    Job Description

    The Survey Drafter will be responsible for CAD drafting of boundary surveys, transmission line right-of-way surveys, and land tie surveys. This role involves writing metes and bounds or centerline descriptions for assigned projects. Additionally, the position supports survey field crews and office personnel by researching existing survey and real estate records, contacting local and state agencies for right-of-way information, and ensuring the accurate transmission of completed projects to relevant stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Create CAD drafts for boundary, transmission line right-of-way, and land tie surveys.

    + Prepare metes and bounds and centerline descriptions for assigned projects.

    + Support survey field crews and office personnel by researching survey and real estate records.

    + Communicate with local and state agencies to obtain right-of-way information.

    + Ensure all drawings meet industry and project-specific standards.

    + Maintain up-to-date records of drawings, revisions, and project documentation.

    Essential Skills & Qualifications

    + Associate degree in drafting or a related technical field.

    + Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.

    + Experience in transmission line drawings, including plan and profile drawings, detail drawings, and cover sheets.

    + Knowledge of survey coordinate systems and the ability to interpret survey data accurately.

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation.

    + Ability to collaborate with surveyors and other team members to verify data accuracy and compliance.

    Preferred Skills & Additional Qualifications

    + Experience interpreting survey data and creating technical drawings.

    + Familiarity with industry standards and project-specific requirements.

    + Experience with MicroStation is highly preferred.

    Work Environment

    The Survey Drafter will work in a collaborative office environment, interacting with surveyors, engineers, and other personnel. While primarily office-based, occasional field support may be required to ensure the accuracy of survey data and drawings. Adherence to safety and compliance guidelines is mandatory.

     

    This position is in-office at the Alabama Power Corporate Office, supporting Transmission Line projects and Right-of-Way/Easement developments. The drafter will be part of a team of 10-12 professionals, working in a dedicated cubicle space with a personal computer station.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr.
