    Job Title: Substation DesignerJob Description

     

    Join a dynamic team where engineering excellence meets purpose. As a Substation Designer, you will play a crucial role in developing construction drawings for substation projects. You will also have the opportunity to supervise and mentor less experienced designers.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop a substation design layout using scoping information and general guidance from a Design Engineer.

    + Independently create 2-D drawings and 3-D models of electrical substation components, such as transformers and circuit breakers, using MicroStation.

    + Design layouts of parts and assemblies in both 2-D and 3-D formats.

    + Update existing models, assemblies, and layouts to reflect design changes.

    + Apply part naming, numbering conventions, and file management protocols.

    + Create or modify physical drawings, including single line diagrams, station location plans, and electrical assemblies.

    + Use ProjectWise for project documentation to track design modifications.

    + Handle complex projects with minimal supervision.

    + Coordinate with other departments involved in design projects.

    + Supervise and mentor less experienced designers.

    + Check and validate project drawings, including those of peers and subordinates.

    + Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Substation Design.

    + Lead small, less complicated projects with minimal guidance from an engineer.

    + Work under the supervision of engineers.

    Essential Skills

    + Expertise in substation design, physical layouts, utility systems, grounding, and lightning protection.

    + Proficiency in creating one-line diagrams and substation engineering.

    + Six years of experience in designing physical layouts and creating detailed bills of material.

    + Six years of experience using AutoCAD for design purposes.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience in checking design packages is preferred.

    + An associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided design (CAD), or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent experience and/or education.

    Work Environment

    Work within a quiet engineering office environment where business casual attire is the norm. Collaboration and teamwork are highly encouraged and occur frequently.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
