    Job Title: Geotechnical Laboratory ManagerJob Description

     

    We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Geotechnical Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of our soil and materials testing laboratory. The ideal candidate will manage lab personnel, ensure quality control, maintain equipment, and deliver accurate and timely test results in compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

    Responsibilities

    + Supervise and coordinate the activities of laboratory technicians and support staff.

    + Oversee geotechnical testing of soil, rock, aggregate, and construction materials including liquid limits, grain size analysis, Proctor compaction, triaxial shear, and consolidation.

    + Ensure compliance with industry standards and relevant protocols.

    + Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments.

    + Implement and monitor quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.

    + Review and approve laboratory test reports for accuracy and completeness.

    + Manage sample logging, storage, and disposal procedures.

    + Coordinate with project managers and field staff to prioritize testing schedules.

    + Train and mentor laboratory personnel in testing procedures and safety protocols.

    + Maintain laboratory certifications such as AMRL, CCRL, and others.

    + Assist in budgeting, procurement of supplies, and resource planning.

    Essential Skills

    + Minimum 3 years of experience in construction/geotechnical materials testing.

    + Strong knowledge of geotechnical testing methods and standards.

    + Leadership & Team Coordination: Proven ability to manage and train lab personnel.

    + Quality Assurance Knowledge: Familiarity with QMS and quality protocols.

    + Safety Compliance: Strong understanding of lab safety procedures.

    + Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and lab data systems.

    + Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent (required).

    + Certifications such as NICET, ACI, or equivalent are a plus.

    + Familiarity with laboratory management software and data reporting tools.

    + Experience with soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt testing.

    + Certifications in ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1, MoDOT Bituminous Technician, and CTTP Basic Aggregates are highly prioritized.

    Work Environment

    The role is primarily laboratory-based with occasional field coordination. It involves exposure to construction materials and testing equipment and requires adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
