General Function
The Practitioner-in-Residence is a non-tenure track faculty position appointed on the basis of outstanding professional attainments and recognition in his or her specific field and renders a specified service to the University.
Description of Primary Duties
The Practitioner-in-Residence will:
+ Provide direct patient care in the Missouri State University Physical Therapy Clinic, including both insurance-based and pro bono services.
+ Serve as a clinical expert in orthopedic physical therapy and manual therapy techniques.
+ Supervise and mentor Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ) students in the provision of care within the pro bono clinic.
+ Assist in the instruction and supervision of students in musculoskeletal laboratory courses, contributing clinical expertise to support hands-on learning.
+ Participate in department activities and initiatives as assigned by the Physical Therapy Program Director.
+ Serve as a resource and role model for students and faculty in the application of evidence-based orthopedic physical therapy.
+ Engage in professional service or clinical scholarship
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Practitioner-in-Residence are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.
Additional Qualifications
Additional required qualifications specific to this role include:
+ Hold an active license as a physical therapist and be eligible for licensure in the state of Missouri.
+ Hold a Cyriax-based advanced clinical practice manual therapy certification
+ Have at least fifteen years of orthopedic clinical experience in an outpatient, manual therapy-focused setting, treating patients with acute, recurrent, and chronic orthopedic/neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction.
+ Have experience serving as a clinical instructor, supervising and mentoring physical therapy students in clinical education settings
+ Demonstrate effective communication and relationship-building skills
