Summary You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY OCEANOGRAPHER/ PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/ MATHEMATICIAN/ COMPUTER SCIENTIST in the Data Management Branch, Ocean Analysis Division, Ocean Projects Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS. The Secretary of Defense has ordered department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DOD hiring freeze. Responsibilities You will serve as data manager, application developer and data analyst, supporting the Ocean Data in Submarine Transit Areas (ODISTA) Program within the Ocean Analysis Division. You will analyze and manage a range of environmental data to include bathymetric, hydrographic, geophysical, and oceanographic data collected from REMUS AUVs, like systems, oceanographic survey ships, and other vessels of opportunity. You will develop and apply of data processing, analysis, interpretation, input and report compilation techniques and the production of a wide variety of products and services that meet or exceed established Fleet requirements. You will maintain liaison with Naval laboratories, other agencies, and civilian institutions engaged in ODISTA, Navy Mobile Instrumentation System (NMIS) Program and related programs. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses: 1301- General Physical Science Series- Basic Requirements: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. 1360- Oceanography Series- Basic Requirements: Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences. or Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. 1520- Mathematics Series- Basic Requirements: Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics. or Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. 1550- Computer Science Series- Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
