Transmission Safety Specialist
The Site Safety Specialist will be responsible for representing POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, as the on-site safety professional during project execution and through all phases of project performance.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Participate in project meetings and provide input & guidance on safety-related topics
+ Lead project Safety Committee and promote a proactive safety program and culture throughout the project
+ Perform daily site inspections on contractor’s performance to ensure compliance with mandated safety training and industry best practices
+ Lead coaching moments with field staff to further promote safe work practices
+ Conduct daily site safety observations and report findings in a timely manner to appropriate internal and external project management
+ Participate in daily and/or weekly safety meetings
+ Lead accident investigations and participate in site accident/incident investigations by reporting findings to appropriate internal and external project management
+ Meaningfully collaborate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) development/review -- provide reporting, advice, and feedback, when needed
+ Coordinate with contractor construction management on equipment/lift and other potentially hazardous activities
+ Represent POWER and notify appropriate personnel if any governmental agency (i.e. OSHA) audit/inspect the project site
Required Education/Experience
+ Understanding of the occupational safety concepts concerning energized/de-energized environments
+ Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or ability to obtain CUSP certification within 12 months of hire
+ Safety Credential preferred (e.g. CSP, CHST, CSHM)
+ OSHA authorized Outreach Trainer (OSHA 500)
+ 10 years of relevant work experience
+ Training certifications/competency in cranes & lift operations, energized/de-energized electrical equipment,
+ EI/LOTO, fall protection, respiratory protection, excavations, scaffolds, hot work, heavy equipment, confined space entry, etc.
+ Professional work ethic: ability to carry out function without supervision (work independently & efficiently)
+ Mindset to approach safety duties with balanced respect for compliance, business needs, and client requirements
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
