    BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS UNIT- EXTERNALS (HQ)

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This full-time position is in the Office of Executive Investigations, reporting to the Background Investigation Unit- Externals.

     

    This position conducts full (Level II) background investigations on, but not limited to prospective FDLE members, judges, Governor-appointments, agency heads and other high-profile appointments by compiling, analyzing, verifying, coordinating and reporting case related information.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Providing direction to Special Agents, Inspectors and other analysts conducting background investigations to ensure leads are conducted according to established policy and procedure;

    + Tracking and monitoring lead requests to regions and field offices to ensure all leads are completed by the assigned due date and as specified in the original lead request;

    + Reviewing documentation of each investigative activity and approving reports related to background investigations to ensure the information is complete, comprehensive and accurate;

    + Preparing complete, detailed and accurate summaries of investigative activity related to background investigations; and

    + Communicating the result of each analytical effort to the requestor within pre-established or otherwise reasonable time frames in compliance with appropriate policies and procedures.

     

    To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

    + Experience in criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, or in a law enforcement agency can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

    + Any combination of the experience as described above, vocational/technical training in the area of law enforcement, or college course work from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter, or 720 classroom hours per year for the required education.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    + Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations and solve problems;

    + Ability to organize data into logical formats for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials;

    + Ability to conduct fact finding research;

    + Ability to utilize problem solving techniques;

    + Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments;

    + Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; and

    + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    BASE SALARY:

    Crime Intelligence Analyst I

     

    $41,200 – Bachelor’s degree*

     

    Crime Intelligence Analyst II

     

    $44,290 – Bachelor’s degree* and one year of analytical** experience.

     

    Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst I

     

    $46,350 – Bachelor’s degree* and three years of analytical** experience.

     

    Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst II

     

    $55,620 – Bachelor’s degree* and five years of analytical** experience.

     

    *A master’s degree in criminology, law enforcement intelligence analysis, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis or comparable discipline; or a professional certificate in one of these disciplines can substitute for one year of experience.

    **Analytical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year- for-year basis. Analytical experience must be in the fields of: criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, law enforcement agency (CIA I/CIA II) or investigative experience in a law enforcement agency (SCIA I/SCIA II).

    NOTES:

    Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE’s pay policy and is determined by the applicant’s education and experience. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement. These CIA positions are included in FDLE’s Crime Intelligence Analyst Progression Plan. The plan provides professional development training and advancement opportunities to enhance FDLE’s investigative strategy and promote development within the crime analysis field.
