    Position Specific Description

     

    This position provides strategic leadership, management and technical safety support to assigned Power Generation Division leaders and employees at all levels. Both a strategic thinker and technical safety expert with the right people skills to devise, develop, and implement successful safety culture and related processes that both achieve results and are regulatorily compliant. Working from the Power Generation Division (PGD) Safety Team under limited supervision, this fast-paced position requires maximizing safety resources across numerous fossil (natural gas) plants and related support organizations in Union and Non-Union environments. Works collaboratively and with direction from the PGD Florida Power & Light (FPL) Joint Safety Committee (JSC). Often formulates and coordinates solutions to sensitive and controversial issues, working with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and, at times, external agencies as well. Provides regulatory interpretation of OSHA and related regulations/standards and works supportively with operational personnel at all levels to implement and ensure compliance. Identifies key strategic initiatives and leads and/or guides safety tactical teams to develop/maintain operationally compatible, without compromising safety as a value or regulatory requirements, technical guidance for procedures and processes to assure employee safety. Provides both strategic and on-site leadership/safety coaching, training and consultation; performs injury analysis; recommends practical, yet effective, corrective actions. Recommends and leads enhancements for safety management system and safety culture maturation with a continuous improvement mindset. Job may include other duties as assigned.

    Following are highly desired qualifications:

    - Safety and/or environmental certification(s) (e.g., CSP. ASP, CIH)

     

    - Demonstrated strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry and related standards/codes

     

    - Experience with safety culture programs

     

    - Experience in safety management system procedure/standard/policy and process development and implementation

     

    - Experience developing and implementing safety and health training

     

    - Experience leading root cause investigations

     

    - Experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269

     

    - Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams

     

    - Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)

     

    - Ability to communicate effectively to team members at all levels during a broad variety of forums including large group.
