POSITION SUMMARY
Under general direction of the Special Events Supervisor/Director of Parks and Recreation, the Program Coordinator 3 (Special Events) implements and assists in supervising the professional development, planning and coordination of a variety of internal and external city-wide special events and programs.
Department: Parks and Recreation
Salary: $62,670 per year
Union: None, this is a non-union position.

REQUIREMENTS
General Application Requirements:

+ Applicants must submit a complete application including education, work experience, a resume (if applicable) and completed supplemental questions.
+ Applicants must become residents of the City of Pittsburgh prior to employment and remain a resident throughout employment.
+ Pennsylvania Act 153 Clearance prior to appointment.
+ CPR and AED Certifications (within 6 months of hire date).
+ A current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License at the time of filing application or prior to appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment. Written requests for accommodation on the basis of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act will be considered by the Department of Human Resources and Civil Service Commission on an individual basis.
NOTE: The City of Pittsburgh, as a matter of policy, conducts pre-employment and promotional background investigations on all candidates being considered for positions. Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
+ WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show three (3) years of full-time experience in developing, implementing, and administering special events, programs and/or initiatives to varied age groups and populations (e.g., youth, families, children and adults). One (1) year of this experience must be in a supervisory capacity. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
+ EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Parks and Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Leisure Studies or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
+ EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is seven (7) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

POSITION DUTIES
+ Plans, develops and implements city-wide special events and community based programs; supervises the professional planning and coordination of a variety of city-wide special events and community based programs specializing in new program/event development.
+ Researches, identifies and implements new city-wide special events and programs. Evaluates special events, programs, etc. and implements adjustments based on gleaning data.
+ Assists in devising financial and in-kind assistance strategies for programs through grants, sponsorships, etc.; develops sponsorship proposals, assists with grant writing and maintains all documentation regarding fundraising efforts; implements strategies for optimal cost recovery from special events.
+ Develops and administers approved contracts, leases and other documents (e.g., RFP's, bids for services, supplies and equipment orders, etc.) for assigned projects.
+ Develops and implements marketing and/or registration strategies for city-wide events and programs.
+ Prepares correspondence, memoranda, reports, etc., and keeps accurate records.
+ Interviews and recommends persons to be hired as full-time employees, part-time or temporary employees or consultants.
+ Supervises assigned personnel and provides training and/or technical assistance as needed.
+ Serves as a liaison between the private sector, other city departments, county, state and federal agencies, community groups and the general public regarding events and programs.
+ Represents the Supervisor or Director at events/programs as assigned; responsible for public speaking at events/programs as requested or required; may represent the Department on radio and/or television interviews.
+ Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, outside agencies and the general public.
+ Performs activities and functions of related personnel and other such tasks and duties as assigned or required.
