Job Overview

John Vena Inc. (JVI) is a specialty produce wholesaler, distributor, and importer that’s been sourcing fruits, vegetables, and herbs from hundreds of growers around the world and distributing them to retailers, foodservice distributors, and food manufacturers in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast since 1919. As the Director of Operations, you’ll manage the receiving and distribution of some of the most interesting and exciting specialty produce. You will report to the President of JVI and will be an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team. This fast-paced role is for someone who is strategic, collaborative, energetic, and analytical.

This role has a requirement to work on-site in the warehouse.

About the Job

What does a Director of Warehouse Operations do? Your primary focus will be managing all aspects of produce handling, from the moment it arrives at our warehouse until it is delivered to our customers. This person will be leading the operations teams in produce handling, unloading, receiving, product put-away, order picking, shipping, inventory management, product re-grading, repacking, and facility and equipment management. The Director of Operations will supervise, train, and mentor managers and supervisors in the warehouse, packing house, ripening, and transportation departments.

+ Team Management: Overseeing labor planning and shift scheduling to ensure optimal staffing based on volume trends and anticipated business needs; also mentoring and managing operations supervisors, providing regular feedback.

+  Process Management: Reinforcing established processes across departments and staying up on industry trends and best practices to continuously identify gaps and improve operations.

+ Data Analysis: Defining and implementing department metrics to optimize operational performance, and implementing any necessary process enhancements.

+ Budget Management: Creating and overseeing the operations budget to ensure resources are allocated effectively in support of strategic priorities.

+ Leadership: Contributing to the Senior Leadership Team to help shape and execute strategic growth initiatives for the operations department and the broader organization.
