    NURSING SUPERVISOR (Cardiovascular Intensive Care and Telemetry Unit)

    Responsibilities*

    CVC 5 ICU and Telemetry Unit is a mixed acuity unit consisting of Adult Cardiovascular Intensive Care and Telemetry patient populations caring for patients who have recently undergone cardiac, thoracic, or vascular surgery. This unit specializes in coronary artery bypass, heart and lung transplantation, heart valve repair, ventricular assist devices and esophageal procedures as well aneurysm repairs. Staff members collaborate with the Advanced Practice Team, Residents, Anesthesia, and Surgeons and are involved with patient/family conferences, patient care rounds, and referrals. Perform Charge nurse responsibilities as assigned. Assist in research studies and quality assurance activities.

    DUTIES:

    Provides professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for the departments of CVC-5 Cardiovascular ICU and CVC5 Telemetry. Participates as a member of leadership teams to provide and continually improve health care services and to support the mission and goals of Michigan Nursing Services, and the Health System.

    The CVC 5 ICU and Telemetry Clinical Nursing Supervisor job summary:

    + To assist the department Clinical Nursing Director in planning, coordinating and managing clinical and administrative operations.

    + To provide leadership in the practice of nursing, emphasizing quality patient care, service, education and research.

    + To assist in coordinating between management and patient care activities consistent with the University of Michigan Hospital/Michigan Medicine mission and goal statements.

    + To assist in managing budgets, payroll, commodities, staffing/scheduling, hiring and staff reviews.

    + The Clinical Nurse Supervisor will participate in new program development and implementation; plan, organize and evaluate patient care standards guidelines and educational activities; and monitor and implement the continuous quality improvement programs.

    + This position reports directly to the Clinical Nursing Director.

    + 24/7 Accountability for the unit.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Current licensure as a nurse in the state of Michigan.

    + Required Educational Requirement: Applicant must meet one of the following:

    + Bachelor's degree in Nursing OR Master's degree in Nursing

    + Minimum five (5) years RN experience

    + Minimum two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) cardiovascular/cardiac ICU nursing experience.

    + Nurse Leadership certification or completion within one (1) year of accepting this position or when eligible to certify, whichever comes first. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). Certifications must be recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC.)

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Previous supervisory experience

    + Master of Science Nursing

    + Knowledge of the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers policies and practices

    + Consultative and teaching skills

    + Expertise in Cardiovascular Nursing

    + Understanding and support of patient and family-centered care

    + Ability to be effective, positive change agent Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

    + Flexibility related to unit staffing and patient care needs.

    + Ability to work effectively with Administrators, Nurse Managers, Physicians, Peers, Subordinates, and other UMHS departments and groups.

    + Ability to assess, interpret, and analyze clinical information independently and collaboratively

    + Computer competency including Word, Excel, and be able to extract data from University supported computer data bases.

    + Nursing leadership experience, to include: charge nurse, team leader, professional development framework, or other management/ supervisory experience.

    + Committee membership experience

     

    Work Schedule

     

    Hours/Week: 20 hours

     

    Shift: Predominately evenings however day shifts and weekends will be required.

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
