    Responsibilities*

    Molecular Biology: Responsible for basic wet lab procedures involving but not limited to tail biopsy, dna extraction and purification, PCR, and gel electrophoresis. Individual will be interpreting and analyzing data from these methods and will trouble shoot problems with these methodologies. Will formulate action plans with this data that involves extensive knowledge of both rat and mouse genetics.

     

    Research: Responsible for day to day operations of multiple lab/multiple species colony management. Performs advanced, specialized work in the handling, care, and breeding of laboratory animals in line with the designed study plan. Receives and interprets data from fellow researchers under the supervision of their immediate supervisor. Plans and executes detailed breeding plans according to researchers needs.

     

    Administrative: Operates independently to manage research and animal resources for the Caswell Diabetes Institute. These will include maintaining various complex databases on available research reagents and coordinating the availability of research reagents for more than 20 faculty and their associated research staff. Acts as a consultant on research methods pertaining to multiple research studies. Appropriately assigns projects to the proper financial area in accordance to the monthly budget put forth by their direct supervisor.

     

    IT infrastructure: Responsible for the day to day real time data entry of a Colony Management Database. This includes maintaining data such as animal births, deaths, health concerns, breeding status, and genotype information. Troubleshoot program discrepancies. Addition of new animal lines and assigning proper alleles in accordance with the commercial animal vendors national database.

    Required Qualifications*

    Bachelors degree and 1-3 years of experience in a related filed

    Desired Qualifications*

    Bachelors degree and 5+ years experience in a research setting with an emphasis on project management. Working knowledge of database management and extensive knowledge of mouse/rat genetics is preferred.

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
