    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    In this role as Community Engagement Spec II, the individual will function as a trainer and liaison to individuals, community partners, and organizations, whereby they disseminate information regarding mental health, core stressors, trauma and the impact, and appropriate resources. Additionally, this role will support clinical service delivery through information and expertise, and in particular, regarding refugee and immigrant children’s mental health. They will provide context related to a trainee’s or client’s sociocultural history, cultural background, and other culturally-relevant information to a clinical interaction in order to facilitate deeper understanding of that individual’s strengths and needs. This role will offer advocacy on behalf of trainees and clients and liaise between groups or persons of different cultural backgrounds for the purpose of reducing conflict or producing change, fostering critical connection, and improving providing culturally relevant services. This role will lead the training and dissemination efforts aligned with the tiers of Trauma Systems Therapy for Refugees.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Act as a Trauma Systems Therapy Tier 1 liaison between school, community providers, parents and refugee community; build relationship and enhance communication through community outreach initiatives.

    + Provide Trauma Systems Therapy Tiers 1 and 2 training and ongoing consultation to school staff and other service providers in the community regarding trauma, core stressors, the refugee experience and cultural norms/practices.

    + Guide and support development and provision of TraumaSystems Therapy for Refugees (TST-R). Provide cultural context and guidance for co-facilitator(s) of TST-R Tiers 2-4 (clinicians, mental health assistant, trainees). Provide culturally accurate elements and strategies that can enhance the implementation of the TST-R model for the clinical team.

    + Educate parents/caregivers/families about the purpose of the group or individual counseling; Facilitate communication between clinicians and parents and provide feedback to parents

    + Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise the Mental Health Assistant position

    + Participate in ongoing trainings and meetings that are required to fulfill the role successfully.

    + Facilitate or obtain informed consent for participation in TST-R or trauma trainings, group or individual counseling.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + Bachelor's degree in education, communications, human services, or a related field and/or equivalent professional experience required.

    + Has at least 2 years experience working with refugee youth and families impacted by trauma; Has experience offering professional trainings required.

    + Has some knowledge regarding supervising another staff member.

    + Manages time effectively; Maintains flexible hours in order to meet the demands of the job.

    + Possesses capacity to work as a member of a team and sees value in doing so. Have strong communication skills.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

    + Hold valid NYS driver’s license and access to reliable transportation with sufficient insurance required
