Financial Accountant
Reports to: Assistant Director of Finance
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide accounting and administrative support. This position is responsible for monitoring the organization’s accounting records and financial reports, analyzing statistical information and managing payroll processes. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Finance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Manage all financial transactions, including entry of all AR and AP records, recording and entering of general journal entries, and entry of payroll timecards.
+ This position will also assist with preparation for the annual financial audit and will assist in the preparation of the annual financial report.
+ Carries out administrative duties such as answering phone calls, filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning, producing and distributing forms, and other administrative duties.
+ Administer METRO’s UPASS program for local schools. This includes the distribution of passes, billing monthly invoices, and reporting ridership to participants.
+ This position will assist in the daily cash deposit reconciliation and entry, fixed asset management, excise and fuel tax refund preparation, and other accounting tasks.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must possess at least 2 years of college in accounting, business administration or a related course.
+ Minimum of at least 2 years of professional accounting experience.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Highly developed communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
+ Knowledge of GASB and GAAP rules and regulations.
+ Metro’s policies, procedures and functions.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
+ Advanced word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software
+ Inventory and supply management
+ Establish and maintain effective relationships with other management staff, employees, and the general public in a team-oriented environment
+ Present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
+ Professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions
+ Display willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment and makes timely decisions
+ Prioritize and plan work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans
+ Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
+ Handle difficult people and situations
+ Demonstrated ability to learn agency and department operating policies, procedures, systems, methods, and tasks
