The Regional Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet and equipment operations across the Northeast Region, which includes Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. This position ensures that all vehicles, trailers, and landscape maintenance equipment are purchased, maintained, transferred, and disposed of in alignment with corporate strategy and operational excellence. The role also provides direct support to branch leadership to drive optimal equipment utilization, vendor performance, and compliance with company standards.
You’d be responsible for:
1) Equipment Lifecycle Management
+ Oversee full lifecycle of fleet assets: procurement, deployment, maintenance, transfers, and disposal.
+ Ensure consistent execution of corporate asset lifecycle strategies across all branches in the region.
+ Monitor fleet age and condition, and recommend timely replacements or retirements.
2) Vendor & Dealer Management
+ Maintain and strengthen relationships with local and regional automotive and equipment dealerships.
+ Work closely with vendors to ensure timely delivery, high service quality, and favorable pricing.
+ Identify, vet, and build relationships with high-quality equipment and vehicle maintenance vendors, including on-site mobile maintenance service providers.
+ Support warranty claims, repair escalations, and issue resolution with dealers and manufacturers.
+ Transition branches from local or non-preferred vendors to the company’s strategic supplier program to leverage national spend, increase rebate flow-through, and reduce capital expenditures.
3) Operational Support & Utilization
+ Analyze equipment utilization across branches to identify underused or overused assets.
+ Coordinate equipment transfers to improve utilization and reduce unnecessary capital expenditures.
+ Support branch operations with short-term rental solutions during peak seasonal demands.
+ Work closely with the Regional Safety Manager and the Regional HR Business Partner to promote and reinforce safe fleet practices, including training, incident review, and corrective actions.
+ Liaise closely with the Senior Vice President for the Northeast Region to align fleet operations with overall regional business strategy and priorities.
4) Training & Best Practices
+ Train and coach Branch Managers and field leaders on fleet management policies and best practices.
+ Promote a culture of accountability for equipment care, preventative maintenance, and responsible use.
+ Act as a subject matter expert for safe operation and storage of equipment.
5) Inventory & Compliance
+ Support and oversee annual physical inventory audits at all branches in the region.
+ Ensure accurate recordkeeping in fleet management systems and alignment with corporate asset records.
+ Monitor and enforce adherence to company fleet policies, DOT requirements, and safety regulations.
+ Work closely with the company’s Fleet Management Company (FMC) on key compliance functions including title management, timely registration renewals, adherence to or migration toward FMC tolling programs, coordination of accident management between the FMC and the company’s Risk Management Department, and the transition from local maintenance vendors to FMC national account programs for vehicle maintenance and ancillary services.
You might be a good fit if you have :
+ 7+ years of experience in fleet or equipment management, preferably in landscape, construction, or related industries.
+ Strong understanding of landscape maintenance equipment and vehicles, including trailers, mowers, blowers, and light construction equipment.
+ Experience with fleet management systems and data-driven decision-making.
+ Excellent vendor management and negotiation skills.
+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, vendors, and operational needs across a large geographic area.
+ Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other essential tools required for fleet tracking, reporting, and communication.
+ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to train and influence operational teams.
+ Willingness to travel regularly throughout the region overnight 50 to 80 percent of the time. (Company vehicle provided)
+ Ability to travel by air 2–3 times per year for national leadership meetings or vendor visits.
+ Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field.
+ Experience with DOT compliance and commercial vehicle regulations.
+ Familiarity with asset tracking technology and telematics platforms.
+ Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Physical Demands & Requirements:
+ Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
+ Comfortable working in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
+ Ability to walk, stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods while inspecting equipment and job sites.
+ Capable of climbing into and out of trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment as needed for inspection or training purposes.
+ Ability to drive for extended periods across regional locations.
+ Must be able to be onsite at a branch location by 6:00 a.m. to support dispatch and field operations.
