Job Description
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the agency responsible for regulating for-hire vehicle industries in New York City, including drivers and owners of yellow medallion taxis, green-boro taxis, community car services, black cars (including those booked via smartphone app), certain luxury limousines, commuter vans and paratransit vehicles. These industries serve more than one million passengers each day and are a key component of the City’s transportation network.
TLC is seeking a dynamic and motivated attorney to join the Agency and will under the supervision and management of the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and TLC’s management team, the attorney interne will be expected to conduct various types of legal work, including but not limited to:
- Serve as a Records Access Officer responsible for handling Freedom of Information Law Act (FOIL) requests for information submitted by the public. Duties will be to analyze and intake FOIL requests for TLC records and data from law firms, media outlets, research students, advocacy groups, and other non-profit organizations. Retrieve records from TLC databases and divisions. Examine responsive records and apply appropriate redactions in accordance with all applicable laws.
- Serve as a liaison with executives within the agency concerning significant and/or newsworthy requests. Assist in the supervision of clerical staff processing FOIL requests.
- Under close direction may serve as liaison with the Law Department on agency litigation matters.
- Litigation support work including reviewing litigation papers, compiling responses, and analyzing claims.
- Conduct legal research and provide recommendations and interpretations of various laws, rules, regulations, and programs.
- Special projects as needed.
Note:
New Hire Rate: $72,510
After two (2) years of city employment: $83,388

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.

Salary Min: $ 72,510.00
Salary Max: $ 83,388.00
