Description:
Practicing under the direction of a physician, provides services and interventions such as surgical assistance, patient assessment, history and physical examination, provides treatment, and counsels patients. Performs medical and surgical procedures, orders appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging studies. Orders appropriate medications, treatment or therapies. Provides discharge instructions and assists with coordinating services for the patient at home. Has responsibility for patient care and education; and works with private physicians to facilitate treatment.
PERFORMANCE DUTIES
+ First assists all surgical specialties based on privileges, skills and tasks to be performed.
+ Provides adequate surgical exposure by providing hemostasis and maintaining a clear visual field.
+ Examines patient and obtains and records appropriate history.
+ Administers or orders diagnostic tests such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
+ Compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical exam.
+ Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal. Forms a diagnosis based upon the history, physical exam, and diagnostic studies.
+ Performs therapeutic procedures within specified privileges.
+ Prescribes appropriate, non-controlled medications.
+ Counsels patients regarding prescribed therapeutic regimens, and available alternative health maintenance.
+ Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
+ Provides appropriate discharge instructions, both written and verbal, as well as assisting the patient in coordinating other services at home.
+ Work closely with private physician to facilitate appropriate treatment for patients.
+ Supervise patients in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber
+ Responsible for staff, physician, patient, and community education around wound care and hyperbaric therapy.
