Description We are looking for an entry-level Accountant to join our team in Newport News, Virginia. This long-term contract position is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about accounting and eager to apply their knowledge in a dynamic wholesale distribution environment. The role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and a keen interest in financial analysis and reporting.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations to ensure alignment with the company trial balance and resolve outstanding financial discrepancies.
• Analyze and manage capital projects by reconciling Construction in Progress accounts and tracking project budgets, actual expenditures, and asset capitalization.
• Generate and review monthly reports to maintain accuracy and provide reliable financial data for executives and finance teams.
• Oversee the weekly Small Capital Expenditure process, including reviewing applications, preparing approval documentation, and communicating updates.
• Input and reconcile asset capitalization packages within the Fixed Asset Oracle database.
• Assist with data requests for corporate and external audits, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
• Collaborate with management and cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements.
• Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and meeting strict reporting deadlines.
• Review income statement accounts to verify proper expense coding and monitor trends across expense categories.
• Conduct financial analyses to support decision-making and complete ad hoc projects as assigned by management. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related business field; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• At least 1 year of experience in accounting, including familiarity with general ledger activities and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and macros.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Teams.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems is a plus, though training will be provided.
• Ability to perform financial analysis and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
