Position Overview: The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) is a person with lived experience of substance-use disorder and recovery who provides compassionate, non-judgmental support to individuals in the immediate aftermath of a non-fatal overdose. The CPSS is a critical member of the Granville Health System Post Overdose Response Team (PORT) and will engage individuals# post-overdose to assist clients with crisis-coping and social skills. Position Highlights: Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm Starting Rate: $14 + per hour (commensurate with experience) Retirement Benefits: NC Local Government Pension Plan (5-year vesting period) Loan Forgiveness: Eligible employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and various supplemental benefits available Key Responsibilities: #Conduct outreach in partnership with law enforcement, emergency medical services, and behavioral health professionals after a reported overdose. #Follow-up with the identified individual/family within 24-72 hours of referral (or as soon as can be arranged) #Work alongside the Granville Health System PORT Team to coordinate care of post-overdose patients. #Establish rapport and trust with individuals who have experienced an overdose, by offering education on self-advocacy, and community resources available for ongoing support #Provide peer counseling, recovery planning, and resource navigation, including referrals to medication-assisted therapy programs, rehabilitation, housing, and employment services. #Maintain confidential and accurate documentation of contacts and referrals per HIPAA and grant requirements. #Distribute and educate on naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and other harm-reduction tools. #Participate in case review meetings with the PORT team to ensure coordinated care. #Engage in community outreach and events to reduce stigma and raise awareness of available resources. #Attend required training, supervision, and certification maintenance activities.
